Practical questions
Do I choose which practice I want to go to one at a time?
You and the assistant together determine where you can be seen by a doctor as quickly as possible. You can select the practice, but we would have to check if an international doctor is available to see you at any given time. If there is a medical emergency for which you need urgent assistance we will determine the best location where we can see you the quickest.
Is a basic medical record required?
We like to know who you are so we can provide better care. If something is bothering you, medical history helps us know better what it might be. You are not required to complete the basic medical record, but we strongly recommend it.
My employer is not a partner of Fonkelzorg. Can I still register?
Yes, you can, depending on your travel time to one of our practices. If you live or work in central or eastern Brabant, chances are you can register with us. Do you live farther away? If so, ask your employer to contact us so we can see if we can work together.
Can I go to the hospital right away?
In the Netherlands, you cannot go directly to the hospital. You always start with a visit to your general practitioner (GP). The GP discusses with you what kind of care is best for you. Sometimes this means going to the hospital. In other cases, it is better to resolve it with the GP. It always starts with a phone call to make an appointment. Note: the hospital costs money (depending on your insurance), the family doctor is always free.
Is an online consultation possible?
Yes, it is possible! Especially if you live further away, it is not always easy to come to the practice. In many cases, we then hold a video call. Just give us a call and we’ll explain how it works.
Can I drop by anytime?
In the Netherlands, it is customary to call first to schedule an appointment. During this conversation, the assistants determine whether it is necessary to come by. Sometimes they can start treatment over the phone. It is not possible to come by without an appointment. Do you have a life-threatening situation? Then call 112.

Medical questions
Why am I not prescribed antibiotics?
At Fonkelzorg International, we think it’s important that you get the best care available! We’d like to explain why we don’t just prescribe a course of antibiotics.
Antibiotics are drugs that can treat bacteria. They can kill the bacteria, or inhibit their growth.
Antibiotics do not work for infections caused by viruses, such as a cold, stomach flu, flu or headache.
If you take too many antibiotics, the bacteria in your body can become insensitive to the drugs. As a result, bacteria can continue to grow.
When the bacteria no longer respond well to antibiotics, it is called resistance.
For this reason, doctors do not prescribe antibiotics lightly.
Sometimes a viral infection can be very annoying and make you feel quite sick. Fortunately, there are other aids for this that can make you feel a little better. This will be discussed with your care provider at Fonkelzorg.
Questions from Employers
What will our staff hear from you after enrollment?
We will send a welcome email to your employee when the registration is successful! That way they have our contact information right away. Handy, they can call us right away if needed. 💪
We also try to call as many new patients as possible to let them know that we are here for them (and that you have taken such good care of them😉). Then, if necessary, we ask for medical history so we already know a little bit about who they are when they call.
For this, it would be nice if we have an email address and a phone number. Would you please enter those in the Excel file provided?😀
How often do I deliver patients?
It depends on the changes in your workforce file. If you get a lot of changes then it is helpful to provide a new list weekly. If it changes little then monthly might be sufficient 😀 .
To provide good care without excessive waiting times, it is important to us that enrollment is complete in advance. This allows us to move forward immediately when contacted.
It is not a problem if once someone is not registered in time, but preferably not too often. 🙂👍
How long does it take to enroll employees?
We try to enroll employees as soon as possible, preferably the same week. If you provide a very long list, it may take a little longer. Did an employee need urgent care? Call us to see if we can enroll someone urgently. 👍
Do I also have to unregister employees?
You don’t have to unregister employees. We automatically notice when the insurance is terminated. In fact, we are not allowed to terminate a treatment relationship, because it is not linked to the employer, but to the patient.
An employee does not yet have a BSN, is that a problem?
No, you can just pre-register that employee. We do need the BSN for our claims reimbursement process. If your employee does get a BSN, would you please let us know? Then we can update our patient administraiton.
Meanwhile, your employee can be seen by us as usual so you don’t have to worry that your employee will be left without care.💪
