Health insurance required

Basic insurance (basic health insurance) in the Netherlands is mandatory for everyone over the age of 18, regardless of gender, age or health. Children are on health insurance with their parents. Health insurers may not refuse applications or impose special conditions. The government determines annually what is covered and the mandatory deductible. If you do not take out insurance while it is mandatory, you can be fined. If you work and pay taxes in the Netherlands, you fall under Dutch social security and are obliged to take out basic health insurance even if you do not live in the Netherlands. So it doesn’t matter whether you live here or work alone, as long as you are covered by social security legislation.
